- Watch the interview with James McPherson, a distinguished professor of history at Princeton University. Note the conversational routine in the dialogue, turn taking, topic termination, back channelling, pattern of interruptions, use of laughter. How does Colbert use and/or violate the expected parameters of conversation routine in order to produce a comic effect? Does this correspond to what your text book claims about the use of humor?
